A Very Brief Introduction to Christianity's View of Contraception

These are two Janet Mefferd shows that briefly discuss the history and ethics of contraception. The first is an interview with Allan Carlson discussing the transition from the unified anti-contraception stance taken by evangelicals and many within Western society in the nineteenth century to an almost unified acceptance of contraception by the same.

The second is my interview discussing the ideas behind this acceptance as well as the biblical ethics that undermine such a practice. I wish we had longer to discuss the issue, but time flies in these sort of things, so you take what you can get.

  1. Do you have any advice for how a ruling elder in the PCA, who has recently formed this conviction, should go about holding it within the life of the church? Does your church discipline members who use contraception?

  2. I would go slowly, realizing that change will take place when assumptions are slowly changed and that will be through a lot of biblical preaching on sexual ethics in general. People have been brainwashed in this area. It really is the great deception of our time. Very few people have escaped such a deception. Lots of prayer. Lots of Bible study. Lots of conversations with those who are teachable. I would avoid doing much with those who are not. It simply is unfruitful and will lead to a lot of conflict for nothing.
