Contest!

The great Amazon manipulation . .. er, I mean, "giveaway" is on. I'm giving away a free $25 gift certificate for Amazon to one of my members, and of course, you get free super saver shipping on most items you buy for $25, so shipping will likely be free. This is a shameless ploy to get many of you readers out there to actually commit and become a member. Just click the google link at the right to sign up and join. The great thing is that there are only a few people on it now, so your chances of winning are pretty good. So sign up. It's free and it will help me make a good argument to publishers to send me some books to review. Yes, this was all for me in the end. ;-) The contest will end in one week (July 21, 2012), so join today (and you can't just join for the contest and then stop following or I will find where you live, come to your house, and give you a very disheartened puppy dog look--once you sign on, we're best friends forever).

  1. I read everything you write through Google Reader and link to you on Twitter often and my blog occasionally. You should just skip the formalities and send it to me! Plus, I've got the keys to the kingdom when it comes to review books; just follow my program outlined here.

  2. Oh, and I just followed you. And let me not neglect to mention that my birthday was 10 days ago and you still haven't given me anything! :-P

  3. Hahaha. Thanks Nick. I actually got the idea from you. I had never even thought of asking a publisher for a book to review before, but there are so many I would love to review. I also love your reviews, so I would love to do some here, but publishers look at my 10 members and don't think it's worth it (I've actually only asked two, somewhat smaller, publishers so far, but I'd like to get more members before I ask others, especially the bigger ones). I try to tell them I have thousands of people from around the globe reading it, but they can't see my stats (I guess I could try to copy them and send them to them). In any case, thanks for those tips. They've been a big help in knowing how to approach them.

  5. Thanks Nick. Maybe I should mention that people can buy other things at Amazon besides books. BTW, how did you like that bluray? Does it stream well? I was looking for something that would stream Youtube well and that looked like it might work.

  7. Love the Blu-ray player. It starts up a bit slow but that's no big deal. Netflix, Youtube, Pandora, etc. all work like a dream. I'm going to write up a review within a couple of weeks after I've really had a chance to explore all of its features.

  11. As your former room mate, long time friend, reviewer of one of your books, and long time reader of your blog (and a member) I think I deserve automatic consideration to win the gift card. There are some good Joel Osten books I want to buy with it (j/k). Also do you use google analytics on your site to track your traffic and visitors. That information will speak far more about how many people read and follow you than membership.

  12. LOL. Craig, I can't allow anyone to buy Joel Osteen books with it. I'm going to see if I can explicitly put that into the certificate limitations. ;-)

Is google analytics the stats section of blogger? I see how many hits I get and from what countries I've gotten hits from, but that's about it.

  15. Bryan, Emily and I could just picture the involuntary twitching that must have taken place when you read my post. Maybe I will just use it to buy something from John Dominic Crossan instead. (insert more twitching) I will private message you about google analytics.
