Frustrated with Gramcord

My old laptop went out on me, so I bought a new one. Of course, when I bought it, most new laptops came with Windows 7 64-bit Home Edition. Well, I've used Gramcord for years. I've come to rely on it like a third hand. It's become a part of my rhythm in studying the Scripture. It's the only Bible program I have simply because the scholar's bundle had everything I needed.

Well, now it seems that Gramcord is incompatible with my OS and the only solution they came up with is for me to use one of two advanced programs that I can't and don't want to figure out to use that would essentially make me install another OS (i.e. XP) on my system. No thanks.

This is really disappointing and now I need to figure out whether I should go with Logos or Bibleworks, but probably won't be able to afford something equivalent to what I had for quite some time. Bummer.

I've been a walking advertisement for Gramcord for all of these years, but this is just unacceptable. There needs to be a better fix than this. Oh well.

In the meantime, if my statements seem less specific and I don't quote from the original languages or give you a rundown on the way that grammar or words are used in various contexts, you'll know why.

  1. It seems like you use software for mainly doing exegesis. If that's the case then I'd recommend BibleWorks. It's a great deal cheaper than Logos and it's focus is on exegesis and original language work.

But don't get me wrong; Logos is great. It's more for the person looking to build a large digital library full of useful reference material. It can handle all the exegetical stuff as well, although I think BibleWorks is a bit easier to navigate when it comes to straight exegesis.

  2. Thanks Nick. I've heard Bibleworks is really good. I think I might give that a shot.

  3. I share your frustration. I have read through the Greek NT numerous times (sometimes with the convenience of Gramcord). I guess those days are numbered. I still have a Windows 7 laptop (at home only) for now.

Gramcord has limited resources and limited customers so it isn't surprising they haven't been able to keep up with the whims of Microsoft. Windows Me was a waste; I have only had Windows 8 for a day and I wish I had an alternative. Oh! I do- Apple products, chromebooks, or a linix system next time. I no longer have ESSENTIAL software that I can only run on a Windows product (Windows 8 and forward).

  4. Cloyd, I think you're right. I should look into upgrading to an Apple.

  5. Gramcord should run in "Windows XP mode" within 7 (And I hope 8 and 10). XP mode will not have support form MS so should only be used (safely) when NOT connected to the Internet.

    See http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7
