I think because it's literature forged in...LOL. I think because it's literature forged in the midst of persecution, it's much more violent in its descriptions than we're used to; but it does show us that early believers were focused on eschatology (i.e., resurrection, heaven, and even hell) to sustain their hope in this life. And that's an important point. Both heaven and hell brought comfort, the former of love and peace for those who were faithful and the latter that justice would be brought upon those who oppressed the faithful.B. C.
